PRESS RELEASE
Day-One of the Social Media Strategies for Travel North America (our client) draws the most innovative companies and minds in the travel industry – and they tweet!
(Live online version: http://pitch.pe/129555)
03.03.2011 (New York) – How can a small conference with an attendee list of only 300 people create 2,000 tweets in several hours? Have an agenda that reflects the most hotly debated topics in the industry being covered, have an audience that is very engaged in social media and have compelling content to share.
Analytics on #smtravel11 (the Twitter hashtag for the Social Media Strategies for Travel North America 2011 conference) show a whopping 2,000 tweets posting to the hashtag on the first day of the conference alone (March 2nd). Stats were created by Twitter hashtag tracking site “What The Hashtag” (http://wthashtag.com).
The conference (held in San Francisco, March 2-3) is now in it’s fourth year and features some of the most respected thought leaders in the travel industry as speakers in addition to attendees who are owners and operators of corporate travel-related companies seeking to understand how to use social media more effectively. Event organizer EyeforTravel (a UK-based company specializing in travel distribution news, worldwide events and analysis) produces eight conferences worldwide annually focusing on social media in the travel industry.
The official transcript of tweets emanating from the conference hashtag stream (downloadable at http://bit.ly/htzPuj) shows #smtravel11 alive with mixture of conversation, debates, questions and multimedia content including photos, videos and audio commentaries. Without nary a lapse in tweeting the actual content of individual presentations, discussions in the hashtag stream ranged from the actual presentations, to professional social media strategies to personal travel preferences and hotel/airlines marketing blunders.
Served Fresh Media was the #1 contributor of content to the hashtag conversation with close to 200 tweets and multiple streams of conversations happening simultaneously throughout the day (as well as audio commentary). Details on the analytics can be found at http://bit.ly/hBIZE6
The conference continues today (the final day) for what is sure to be more discussions, revelations and fiery debates.
